Marshall Major III Voice Review

The Marshall Major III Voice headphones don’t look much different from their wireless predecessors at first glance. The most crucial difference is that they support Google’s personal assistant, but they also sound better. They feature square ear cups similar to early versions, with the iconic white Marshall logo making their headphones unmistakable. The cups can rotate for comfort, and the build quality is excellent.

Technical characteristics:

  • Type:  Over-Ear / Circumaural.
  • Noise cancellation: No
  • Battery: 60 hours
  • Drivers: 40mm – dynamic
  • Mic & remote: Yes
  • Weight: 162 grams

Design:

The ear cushions feature a textured faux leather finish with gold accents and a sturdy metal base. They have a foldable frame and an On-Ear design, so you can easily store them in your case. (1)

The left cup is a multi-function potentiometer that allows you to control playback and adjust volume and power. You can also use it to answer calls. The right cup integrates a new button to activate Google Assistant and control it with voice commands.

Headphones can feel a bit tight in some instances, and the pressure can be a bit bothersome after 30 minutes. That said, it’s something to be expected in an On-Ear headset. Unfortunately, they do not have active noise cancellation, for which you will have to fork out a little more money in the high-end models if you want more comfort and ANC.

Sound Quality:

The Marshall Major III Voice delivers a sound similar to the previous model, although these Marshall headphones offer richer mid-bass tones, translating into a warmer sound. We did some testing with old rock and could feel every beat of the drums, guitar chords, and the different emotions of male and female singers. This works in both softer rock and styles close to metal, where the performance is still superlative, with a detailed sound with no frequencies colliding with each other. (2)

  • Driver Sensitivity: 97 dB SPL
  • Driver Type: Dynamic
  • Driver Impedance: 32 Ohm
  • Drivers: 40 mm
  • Frequency Range: 20 Hz – 20 kHz

Do not think that these headphones only work to the rhythm of rock, as the brand’s history indicates. They can perform at a high level in most musical genres, obtaining satisfactory results. The mid-tones of the previous version were emphasized to make the guitars stand out in the mix, but the sound profile of the Major III Voice is better balanced. In addition, they integrate 40mm dynamic drivers designed to offer better spatiality, although they are not the most neutral headphones on the market. (3)

One aspect to criticize is passive sound isolation, which is one of the aspects that usually does not attract attention in closed-cup headphones. However, we put them to the test in an office environment, and the truth is that it is possible to hear some of the conversations around you. This is an aspect to consider if you plan to make these headphones your companions in your office routine.

Connectivity:

You will be delighted not to experience any interruptions in connectivity, so common in many Bluetooth headsets. The wireless range reaches 10 meters, so you can listen to your music for consecutive hours walking through different spaces without any problem. They also come with a durable, high-quality detachable cable that integrates a button to control playback.

The most striking feature of this new generation of Marshall Major headphones is the support for Google Assistant. You need to tap the dedicated button on the right cup to activate your phone’s personal assistant. Once activated, you can ask about the weather, control smart equipment, and perform many other tasks. (4,5)

Battery:

Marshall says the Major III can keep it running at peak performance for more than 60 hours. This autonomy is unique and is enough to take them for a walk without charging them. It is necessary to highlight this because the battery is undoubtedly the best that the Marshall Major III offers us as a whole.

Bottom line:

Marshall has taken their Major to the next level in this new version. They have a construction that makes the headphones durable and light at the same time and achieves a sound that not only shines in rock but in any musical genre. Its virtues are numerous, and in this model, they have been crowned with a battery that has a truly superlative duration, the best that can be found in wireless headphones.

It isn’t easy to find another pair of headphones competing for this price range.
